Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

To help promote effective learning, teaching, personal development and an atmosphere where pupils can achieve to reach their potential under direction and supervision.

You will be part of a small team of teaching and support staff with specialist knowledge and experience in the field of ASC providing Universal, Targeted and Specialist levels of support. As a Pupil Support Assistant within the Service, you will support your colleagues in the mainstream nursery and early years primary educational sectors on autism best practice. As a part of your training the successful candidate will be given an opportunity to support at Orchard Brae School for the first month. Essential - You must have varied and significant experience of working with and supporting children and young people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

PVG membership for regulated work with children and/or protected adults or, a willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

  • Proven oral communication, literacy and numeracy skills
  • Empathy, patience and tolerance and to respond positively to a variety of additional support needs
  • Establishing positive relationships with others
