The contract lasts one year initially to cover maternity leave but may be subject to further extension. Solicitor required to participate as a member of the Legal Services team in the provision of efficient and effective legal services with a particular focus on social work, education law and liquor and civic government licensing.

The main responsibilities of the post will be to provide an efficient legal service in regard to all Council departments and also advice and assistance to the Council, its Members, Committees and Services, appearing at courts, tribunals, hearings etc as necessary to represent the Council's interests. The work is interesting and varied and this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in local authority law and practice. The successful candidate should be able to manage their own case load and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

As well as their headquarters in Lochgilphead, Argyll and Bute Council have area offices in Helensburgh, Oban, Dunoon and Campbeltown and place of work can be negotiable within one of those locations. The Council is currently developing long-term working from home arrangements through the Our Modern Workspace project. This will be for appropriate posts and employees who wish to continue to work in this way. Further detail on this will be available in due course. In the meantime, this post is subject to the Council’s interim arrangements to work from home. Please do not hesitate to contact the Recruiting Manager to discuss this further.
