Gallery Technician (10/0140)

You will be required to work 18 hours per week, 52.14 weeks per year.

 

Based at Gracefield Arts Centre, Dumfries we are looking to recruit a part-time gallery technician to join our team. The post will support the delivery of the service at Gracefield and includes installing the temporary exhibition programme across two buildings; assisting with the art collection care; preparation of rooms and materials for adult and children’s art activities and the provision of supplies and equipment maintenance for the printmakers’ workshop. Dealing with our user groups and visitors on a day-to-day basis you should have good customer care skills for front of house duties and be able to undertake general basic maintenance of the buildings, liaising with the Gracefield arts officer/administrator and the Council clerk of works on essential repairs.

 

You will be the first point of contact for the emergency service and be required to perform keyholder duties relating to fire and security. The role may require the occasional transportation of art exhibitions.

 

You should be a reliable, trustworthy, conscientious and enthusiastic person with good general education and have some previous experience of a museum or gallery environment. A high level of communication and customer care skills are essential as is experience with security/alarm systems. Basic computer skills and a current driving licence are desirable, as is an interest in art and design and some knowledge of printmaking.

 

Working patterns are flexible and may include some weekend hours to meet the needs of the service.
