Job Description

Role – Team Leader (Children Services)
Location – GCHSCP, Families for Children, Ladywell Business Centre, 94 Duke Street, Glasgow, G4 0UW
Hours - 35 hours per week
Contract Status – Permanent

To support children to stay connected with their birth families, where it is appropriate to do so, and those who are important to them, while providing support, guidance and learning opportunities for fostering and adoptive carers? To coach and lead a group of staff in supporting and providing supervision to fostering and adoptive carers as well as working alongside colleagues in locality teams and partner agencies to promote timely decision making and care planning for children? An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Team Leader within Children Services located in our Fostering, Adoption and Permanence Team within Families for Children. The post holder will manage a team of Social Workers and Social Care workers offering support and guidance to foster carers, the children and young people receiving care, their birth families and those important to them, and locality social work teams.

Applicants should be committed to supporting children within their foster placements to achieve their full potential and to work alongside the team around the child to secure a permanent future, whether that is at home with their families, adoption, or remaining within their fostering family, according to each individual child’s care plan. The applicant should have a commitment to the Promise and to keeping siblings together and promoting life long connections between children and those important to them. Applicants should be able to lead a team of staff in taking a strengths focused, trauma informed and anti-poverty based approach to ensure the wellbeing of children in foster care. Applicants will also chair meetings, including foster carer reviews, placement support meetings and will be responsible for facilitating foster carer preparation and support groups, which may take place outwith standard working hours (evening, weekends and being part of a management ‘on call’ rota).

We are looking for a Team Leader who is experienced in managing complex circumstances effectively and compassionately, who can work in a busy, fast paced environment, is organised, autonomous, flexible and is able to keep children and their families at the heart of any decision making. This individual should have an excellent knowledge and commitment to the Promise and a willingness to participate and contribute to National forums as well as skills to form relationships with peers and colleagues across Glasgow to promote collegiate working between our Fostering, Adoption and Permanence team, and locality Social Work Teams. The applicants should be innovative, solution focused and have an interest in how best we can support our fostering and adoptive families at points of need/crisis.

The Applicant should be in possession of a Degree / Diploma in Social Work (or Social Work equivalent). Please refer to the Person Specification for full details of the required qualifications, skills, knowledge and competencies that are required for the above role. In addition, applicant must demonstrate commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD). Experience of Family Placement work is desired but not essential.

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme is essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above role will be required to pay for their PVG Membership.

Registration to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is an essential requirement for this role. You must either be already registered or have applied within 3 months and be registered within 6 months from your start date. Please note as part of the local government pay deal, local authority staff are currently not required to pay SSSC fees.

These roles are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).
