Job Description

Post Title: Community Supp Officer - Renewables Engagement
Location: Various Locations within the Highland Council
Hours: 1 x 35 hours per week (West and Mid area), 1 x 17.5 hours per week (Inverness & South area)
Duration: Permanent
Salary: £38,474 - £41,714 p.a.

Salary placing will normally be at the first point of the scale.

Job Purpose: In light of the growth in renewable energy developments, this role will provide direct support to local community groups to enable involvement and participation in the planning process and, where appropriate, maximise local community benefit as the result of developments.

The post holder will work directly with local groups to provide information and support to build understanding and encourage participation in responding to consultations from the Council and/or Scottish Government in relation to applications for renewable energy developments.  The aim is to provide communities with the appropriate knowledge and tools to support them to consider developments coming forward and make informed representations on behalf of their local communities.   

Alongside this, the post will provide direct support to groups to engage with renewable energy companies and providers to maximise community benefit.  This will assist in the delivery of Highland’s Social Value Charter.    

These posts and much of the work will be based in the West and Mid area (35 hr post) - covering Skye & Raasay, Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh, Dingwall, Black Isle and Lochaber. The 17.5 hour post will cover much of the Inverness & South area.  Both posts will be part of the Community Support and Engagement team and will work and support activity across the whole Highland area.
