This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive contribution to Orkney’s economy and business community. You will lead a skilled and experienced team working to ensure that local people and businesses benefit from key developments taking place in Orkney.

You will be responsible for the delivery of a wide range of economic development projects and services including strategic economic planning, business development support (including key sectors) and engaged in supporting community development and management of the Council’s Economic Development Service.

As Economic Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic economic policy and for making recommendations on specific strategic and policy matters.

The ability to influence across organisational and agency boundaries is essential, as is experience and a sound knowledge of project planning and implementation.

The successful candidate with be highly motivated with the ability to work on their own initiative and as a leader of a team. A good working knowledge and experience of a range of internal and external IT systems, including database and financial systems is essential.

You must be educated to SVQ4, HND, general degree or equivalent level in business studies or community development, or you should have a minimum of 5 years previous recent and relevant experience.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within and on occasion out with Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
