Pupil Support Team

Principal Teacher for Pupil Support

35 hours per week (1.0 FTE)

Temporary up to 16 August 2026

Arising from the retirement of the current postholder, a vacancy has arisen for a committed and dynamic individual who will embrace the challenge of developing and leading the Pupil Support Team through a period of change. The post is currently located in at Keelylang, Kirkwall.

Under the direction and reporting directly to of the Service Manager for Support for Learning and Inclusion within the Education Service, the successful candidate will support, lead and manage a team of skilled professionals. The Pupil Support team includes Support for Learning Teachers and Support Staff who liaise with staff in educational establishments to ensure the Additional Support Needs of pupils are met. At a universal level, the team work to support staff in settings to develop and deliver inclusive schools in Orkney. At a targeted level, the team support colleagues to enable the maximal engagement of young people in the inclusive learning environment that the setting provides. At a multi-agency level, the team work with agencies involved, to support and facilitate the young person’s engagement, attendance and attainment.

As Principal Teacher, the role has a key focus in learning & development, multiagency working, leading, coordinating the support team, quality assurance and engaging with services, children and young people.

You must be registered, or in the process of registering, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

This post requires PVG Scheme membership in respect of regulated work with children.

Salary will be based on point 4 of the Principal Teacher scale of the SNCT Salary Tables plus a distant islands allowance.
