A key part of this role will be to drive the implementation of the Waste Strategy which looks to see a step-change in Orkney’s ability to collect and process recyclable materials and act as an enabler for the development of circular economy opportunities in the County. In addition, you will be responsible for the development and delivery of policies and strategies, management of the collection and treatment of materials and accountable for the operational delivery of the service which provides kerbside collections to households across Orkney Mainland and the Isles.

The Council also operates two Waste Transfer Stations, 3 Household Waste Recycling Centres and 2 Recycling Centres together with a number of recycling points.

Excellent communication and facilitation skills, together with a sound, practical knowledge of waste and recycling legislation will be a requirement, in addition to significant relevant management experience and a proven ability to lead and manage complex change projects.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to make a real difference to communities across Orkney and represents a significant chance to grow your career within one of the most geographically diverse local authority areas in Scotland.

This post requires a level of knowledge, which can be evidenced through either holding an SVQ4, HND, general degree or equivalent SCQF level 8/9 qualification or a period of 4 years of previous experience directly relevant to the post.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
