Main Purpose of the Role

Working within Perth & Kinross Council is more than a job, it's about being part of something meaningful. It's about being part of an organisation that puts people at the heart of all we do and provides opportunities to make a real difference by enhancing every life we touch.

We currently have the following opportunity:

Summer Student, Engineer (Fixed Term until 12 September 2025) - PKC12588
£23,650
Pullar House, Perth

The Roads Infrastructure Team is looking for an enthusiastic Summer Student to provide support to existing staff who are undertaking the supervision of the construction phase of some exciting infrastructure projects undertaken by Perth & Kinross Council.

Perth and Kinross is at the heart of Scotland and, as well as being a beautiful area with easy connections to all points north, west, east and south, holds ambitious plans for sustainable economic growth. This ambition seeks to harness the innovation and creativity of the area – capitalising on our natural assets, great connections and the talent and potential of our communities. Indeed, the Council itself is making major investments in areas including our education facilities, whilst the cultural scene is also recovering from the pandemic period. In addition, the Tay Cities Deal will also be a catalyst for further growth. Beyond this, we are also working hard to mitigate climate change, improve environments and ensure all can lead healthy and active lives in a low-carbon energy efficient environment.

As well as being a great place to live and work, Perth & Kinross Council provides opportunities for training and development and a chance to be involved in projects that will define your career whilst shaping the future of our city, towns, smaller settlements and countryside. You’ll benefit from excellent annual leave entitlements, flexible working arrangements and many other employee perks including corporate leisure membership and staff wellbeing support.

This exciting post provides an interesting opportunity to be a part of a small team which delivers Capital funded infrastructure projects, the most high profile of which is the recently completed £150million Destiny Bridge and New Kingsway. The post will assist with the ongoing snagging and contract closure processes for that project as well as assisting with site supervision for two other projects – Comrie Flood Protection Scheme and Bertha Park Link Road.

Your main duties will involve assisting the team in the supervision of construction activities and keeping site records. You will also be required to provide some administrative support to the project team as well as support with project communications and community benefits events linked to the project.

Skills & Experience Required

You will have good people/computer skills and be able to work in a small team. You should be studying towards a qualification (Degree/ HND/ HNC) in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, the Built Environment or similar.

Experience of Civil Engineering design and / or construction site supervision is desirable.
