Role Purpose

To lead and manage the Enhanced Provision at Galashiels Academy, ensuring effective teaching and learning experiences for secondary aged children with severe and complex needs. To provide direction, support and advice to the team of staff who work with the pupils in the Enhanced Provision.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the day to day operation of the Enhanced Provision and promote the best use of the resources and spaces available Contribute to the formulation of the aims and objectives of the Enhanced Provision, and work to achieve these through assisting with the development and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures.

In the Enhanced Provision, support and sustain good practice in teaching and learning, building a culture of excellence by applying knowledge and understanding of recent research in teaching and learning and its implications for improving practice.

Lead change and improvement by applying knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary developments in educational policy at local and national level

Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning within the Enhanced Provision systematically and rigorously, and grow the skills of all Enhanced Provision Staff so that they can effectively contribute to this process

Ensure that the curriculum is continually reviewed, adapted and developed for the Enhanced Provision as a whole, and for individual pupils in order to meet their highly personalised needs

Support staff to plan, monitor, record and assess pupil’s progress in order to identify and address highly personalised individual needs

Research, lead and develop an appropriate curriculum, and encourage and enable other staff to be part of research and development, in order to effectively meet the needs of pupils placed in the Provisions

Identify and manage resources needed to deliver the curriculum

Ensure the preparation and monitoring of Individualised Education Programmes within the Enhanced Provision and contribute effectively to Coordinated Support Plans and Integrated Assessments for pupils attending the Provisions

Develop, manage and evaluate an improvement plan for the Enhanced Provision

Foster excellent partnership working with colleagues from health, social work, voluntary sector and all stakeholders

Build strong and effective relationships with parents and offer both universal and targeted support as appropriate

Lead or contribute to Meetings Around the Child (MAC) or Universal Plus Meetings

Contribute to Chronologies of every pupil Cover staff absences as required, and cover for RICCT and consultation as necessary

Ensure that effective child protection and safeguarding measures are in place

Essential

A degree or diploma in education or PGCE/PGDE along with evidence of continued personal professional development
General Teaching Council Scotland Full registration Experience of working with children with a range of additional support needs
