Are you kind, compassionate, trustworthy and a good listener? Do you have a caring nature and commitment to working with vulnerable people?

If you find reward in supporting people, this could be the perfect job for you!

This post is based in the North Mainland.

As Community Housing Support Worker, you’ll support and enable vulnerable people to maintain their tenancies, avoid repeat homelessness, and live independent, fulfilling lives in their communities.

You’ll offer a full range of housing support services to individuals and households. Customers of the service could include;

  • Older people, including those with needs associated with dementia;
  • Adults who are homeless or are threatened with homelessness;
  • Adults with learning disabilities;
  • Adults with alcohol and substance misuse/dependency;
  • Adults with physical disabilities; and
  • Adults with mental ill-health

You’ll work mostly independently, in the community and in customers own homes, offering regular housing support calls (including telephone contact) across a defined geographic area.

You’ll work with customers in a non-judgemental way to support them, taking an outcomes focus approach to issues such as establishing, maintaining and sustaining their tenancy and wellbeing.

Your duties will include:

  • Assisting individuals and families to access, sustain and maintain their home or temporary accommodation.
  • Monitoring and recording progress in achieving goals and agreed outcomes.
  • Recording of weekly case work to comply with Care Standards.
  • Supporting customers to maximise their income and to manage their finances.
  • Supporting individuals to enter into education, employment or training.
  • Supporting the customers to adopt skills and approaches to positive integration in the wider community.

The Shetland Islands Council’s ‘Housing Support Shetland’ is a regulated Housing Support Service. Housing Support Shetland is registered with the Care Inspectorate to deliver Housing Support to adults in line with National Care Standards and statutory legislative requirements.
