The Post
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Senior Early Years practitioner to join our Nursery and Kindergarten at our Kelvinbridge campus.
Applicants to the post should be qualified to or working towards achieving BA Early Education & Childcare/ Childcare Practice or equivalent. The post requires a motivated and innovative person to work with our 3 - 5 year old children.
A nurturing manner and the ability to create a stimulating, dynamic learning environment for our children is essential. Candidates must also be up to date with current practice and familiar with GIRFEC, Realising the Ambition, HGIOELC and the Curriculum for Excellence, including the Benchmarks at the Early Stage.
Key Responsibilities
- To adhere to the School’s Child Protection policy at all times, raising any potential or actual issues on an appropriate basis
- To ensure that the medical needs and requirements for all children are attended to daily, including dietary matters and the safe storage of medication
- To attend Child Protection training sessions in line with the School’s policy and to act as Depute Child Protection Officer within the Nursery and Kindergarten
- To observe and implement the policies of the Nursery and Kindergarten and The Glasgow Academy
- To liaise with the Nursery and Kindergarten Team, led by the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten, to create creative, safe, and stimulating learning environments and experiences for all children, both indoors and out
- To contribute to a positive ethos across the Nursery and Kindergarten and wider school settings
- To build positive, nurturing and inclusive relationships with all children and families across the setting
- To provide nurturing and supportive experiences for all children, according to their developmental age and stage
- To promote early literacy, early numeracy and health and wellbeing through play-based learning
- To observe and record the progress of all children in both the Nursery and Kindergarten room on a 2-week rotation.
- To liaise effectively with, and foster strong relationships and working partnerships with families, staff, and external agencies in order to support the individual needs of each child
- To write and or contribute to confidential observations and summative reports as required
- To work collaboratively with the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten to lead the team to gather evidence, monitor and self-evaluate for improvement
- To take the lead on specific aspects of the Nursery and Kindergarten Improvement Plan
- To attend parents’ evenings and other networking events to promote the Nursery and Kindergarten to existing and prospective parents.
- To manage, develop and lead high quality holiday and wraparound provision for all children and to undertake all administration and duties relevant to this
- To ensure that all staff are supported in order to maintain registration with SSSC
- To take a leadership role in ensuring that all Care Inspectorate and legislative requirements are adhered to with regards quality and safety standards
- To take a lead role in transitions for all children as they arrive at Nursery and Kindergarten or move to other Educational Settings
- To support the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten with admissions processes
- To engage in relevant and appropriate Career Long Professional Learning to maintain appropriate registration with SSSC or an equivalent professional body
- To comply with standards set by the Care Inspectorate to ensure the care and welfare of all children
- To participate in the School’s system of Professional Review and Development
- To assist with the Professional Review and Development of Early Years Practitioners
- To attend staff meetings as required by the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten
- To attend all School In-service days
- To attend Nursery and Kindergarten and or School events as required by the Head of Nursery and Kindergarten
- To ensure that everyone is treated as individuals with respect and full consideration, in line with the school’s Equal Opportunity Policy

Qualifications
- BA Childhood Practice (or equivalent) as recognised by SSSC.
- Current registration as a practitioner with the SSSC or ability to apply from commencement of employment
- Additional relevant qualifications
Remuneration and Hours of Work
The hours of work are from Monday to Friday, 8.00am - 6.00pm each day, 45 hours per week, all year round.
Salary: £40,000 (negotiable for candidates with appropriate qualifications)
