Senior Manager (IT Audit), Innovation and Quality
Location: Hybrid Working, with offices based in Edinburgh/Glasgow/Inverness

What’s the purpose of the role?
Our Innovation and Quality (I&Q) business group comprises four functions: professional support and learning; quality; digital audit; and organisational improvement. I&Q ensures that the quality of audit work across Audit Scotland is outstanding, innovative and at the forefront of the profession, and helps fulfil the vision and strategic objectives of the Auditor General for Scotland and the Accounts Commission.
As an inspiring leader you’ll manage and lead your team to undertake effective IT audit activities and harness the power of the team to deliver these activities to a world-class standard. You will use your experience and knowledge to deliver IT audit leadership that make a significant impact on the work of Audit Scotland colleagues and have a clear understanding of how the outcomes from these activities affect our teams and stakeholders. You will generate and lead dialogue about these subjects, facilitating conversation to develop further understanding and share knowledge.
Our audited bodies are investing in new IT systems and technologies to address the challenges they face; replacing legacy systems with more cloud-based architecture. Cyber security threats continue to increase and have an impact on public sector bodies and their supply chain. The increasing risks and complexities, and increased requirements of the International Standards of Auditing, means that there is more emphasis on IT audit within our financial audits. This includes, understanding and testing General IT controls, automated and manual controls and system migrations.
You will report to the Director of Innovation and Transformation and manage the IT audit team and work plan. You will lead and work with managers across I&Q and wider Audit Scotland business groups as we continually modernise our audit approaches and supporting tools, guidance and training.
Working with colleagues in our partner public audit agencies, you will share intelligence to help us improve and to hold public bodies to account.
What will I be doing?
You will work within the Digital Audit team of the I&Q group, with specialist professionals, to lead and develop our audit approaches and supporting guidance. You will support our audit teams to deliver their audits.
You will understand the end-to-end processes and data flows of the IT applications and environments that the organisations we audit use and how they are controlled. This includes understanding the processes and risks associated with third party and shared service arrangements, and software/system development and implementation projects.
You will lead and support different aspects of IT audit work that support our financial and performance audits. Your role will be both client and internal facing. You will be capable of engaging with senior finance and IT professionals within the organisations we audit.
You will also be responsible for reviewing reports and guidance for auditors and responding to technical queries from our audit teams.
More about you
You will be professionally qualified through a relevant professional body (e.g. Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or equivalent) and have significant demonstrable Digital/IT audit experience or of working as a senior IT professional.
You will have practical experience of delivering high-quality complex IT audits, ideally in a public sector environment.
You will have significant experience in identifying and assessing complex IT risks and controls, relating them to financial reporting and wider business risks, and providing opinions and recommendations clearly and concisely to all levels of stakeholders.
You’ll undertake professional and personal development to maintain technical expertise, meet CPD requirements and enhance your career prospects at Audit Scotland.
You will have the experience, enthusiasm and commitment, together with professional and interpersonal skills, to help lead the development of our approach to digital auditing.
Self-aware in your own abilities, you can plan and manage your own work, and the work of a team, to time and quality. You will be a recognised technical specialist and have well-developed professional judgement and the ability to develop and deliver technical solutions and present clear and concise guidance and advice. You know how to work seamlessly within a team to bring out the best in your colleagues.
