Shambellie House Trust
The Trust is a community benefit society registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and with charitable status. We now have over 100 shareholder/members who ultimately control the Trust and a Board of 12 Trustees covering a wide range of skills and experience.
The Trust commissioned a series of studies looking at various options including a new accommodation wing and an extension to the House. Covid however forced a rethink, and the works are now focused on the House as a centre and to work with local accommodation providers where necessary. The ambition to add accommodation and an additional workroom to the House remains and once the initial project is established the Trust will want to start the process of developing the next phases.
The revised Business Plan was enough to convince Scottish Government to transfer the House and grounds at no cost but to also provide grants to assist with the repair work. The project has been supported financially by South of Scotland Enterprise, Dumfries and Galloway Council, Architectural Heritage Fund and a number of charities.
We are developing a Partnership with a local provider of support and learning for vulnerable young people, and they will be involved in maintaining the grounds. A Management Plan will be developed for the grounds which will ensure that they provide the right setting for the House, courses and a resource for the local community.
The Business Plan sets out clearly our vision to become a good employer that looks after and appreciates staff. We are committed to:-
- Becoming a Living Wage accredited organisation
- Operating within the Fair Work Guidelines
- Operating flexible working patterns
- Providing all staff with a healthcare package (those working over 15 hours per week)
- Workplace pension scheme
- Generous annual leave
