Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre Dundee and Angus
We support women, children and young people affected by all forms of sexual abuse and exploitation and to raise public awareness of the damaging and life-changing effects of rape, sexual abuse and exploitation.
The Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre - Dundee and Angus was first established as Dundee Rape Crisis Centre in 1984. In 1999 we changed our name to the Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre as the majority of the women contacting our service were not in crisis and were disclosing historical childhood sexual abuse. In 2013 we agreed to add Dundee and Angus to our name to make it clearer to all the geographical area we cover.
We are a specialist agency providing free and confidential support services to women and young people who have been raped, sexually abused or sexually exploited at any time in their life. We welcome all service users, staff and volunteers who identify as women irrespective of religion, race, age, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity or disability.
We are very often the first or only agency contacted by survivors in the area.
We provide support from our city centre premises and have an outreach support service in Angus.
In addition to this our Vice Versa project provides support to women involved or at risk of commercial sexual exploitation.
Our centre is staffed entirely by female workers and volunteers who are trained to a high standard and share the view that violence against women and children is an abuse of power and should not happen.
We have been successful in achieving the Rape Crisis Scotland National Service Standards, LGBT Charter-mark, Volunteer Friendly award, Living Wage Employer mark and are a recognised counselling skills organisation. We agree and abide by COSCA's Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice.
